When To Change Spark Plugs
|
There is no doubt that finding the perfect time to change the spark plug wires can be confusing. So here are some ways through which you can know when to change spark plugs. The process is fairly easy and usually requires no tools. Remember that each of the spark plug wires stay connected to a spark plug. This also tends to bring the electrical spark to the spark plug for trying to ignite the fuel inside the engine's cylinders. It should be kept in mind that changing the damaged spark plug wire is essential because it can make your car run rough and affect gas mileage. Once you know when to change spark plugs the next step involved is to open the hood and locate the spark plug wires. These are plugs that can be black, blue, red or orange but generally they are black. The quantity of park plug wires most often corresponds to the number of cylinders that the engine has. The idea is to open the box of new spark plug wires and see if they aren't labeled like "1," "2" and so on. Then you have to lay them out in order of length and begin at one end of the engine. When to change spark plugs can be determined in many ways but you have to ensure that you remove only the first spark plug wire. For this you should pull on the boot of the plug wire until it pops off. The next thing that you can do is to follow the wire to its other end. The wire gets plugged into the distributor cap and you have to remove it from the distributor cap by pulling on the end of the wire. Now check the spark plug which will be lightly coated with grey-brown deposits. Remember that along with knowing when to change spark plugs you should also know how to change them. There are certain techniques involved here that you should remember like if heavy deposits are present then the spark plug is black. Also, if the electrode or core noses are damaged then you have to replace the spark plug. Keep in mind that the smaller cars have small plastic pieces that come with slots to hold the wires in place. This ensures that they don't rub against each other or rest on any part of the engine. Exercise caution during the changing procedures, and don’t wait till the end moment to decide when to change spark plugs as it can be risky. |
